Getter guns article in trappers post is very informative if you never seen or been around them it is not allowed anymore but I see where it could be very effective in control situation.

Just received my Trapper's Post a day or two ago. So I haven't looked at the article you speak of but I will.

I'm not sure what was said but getter guns are still used today. Maybe not so much in the east but out west the Government trapper's still use them and some private trappers in certain states can get licensed to use them for control work.

They work on some coyote, others ignore them, they might have satisfied their curiosity before and just ignore it, need a real good getter lure

They work well on dogs as well, hence them being banned. Used to be a place in the vicinity of Pueblo, CO that still manufactured the cartridges and sold them overseas, where they were still legal. like 40 yrs ago.

To stop dogs from pulling getters, they set out ones loaded with pepper, dogs shouldn't pull one again

used a few in adc in 90....never liked it much but there were places and times where it was a tool. Killed fox on them too. They didnt make it far

I grew up on a sheep farm in the flint hills of Ks. My dad run getters as long as I can remember, and I did too up untill they outlawed them. Dad came home one afternoon with a bloody hole in the middle of his palm. Mom about crapped, said we gotta get you to the doc. Dad said forget it, I just walked a half mile back from the pasture, and I'm still alive, I don't think it's gonna hurt me now! He bandaged it up and went out back to work!

Just looked at the article. Yes, the getter's that were primer/powder activated are no longer allowed but the spring activated ones are still used out here in the west.

I think WV is on the only state in the east that uses cyanide guns. Pretty sure its a government trapper that does it.

all getter guns are dangerous,even m-44.....many guys i knew in adc who carried them around in trucks got cancer,even though they used gloves etc. One guy i knew carried the cyanide caps on the dash in his truck ....ugh!!
