Just had a friend of mine sell all of his milk cows. The milk company decided he was too far away to pick up his milk. Last I heard, he was only getting $10 per 100 wt. for his milk. That was before they took out a few perks. From what I was told he was only getting about $4.00 a hundred weight. Figure that by the gallon & see what the store & middleman are making.

I paid $1.49 a gallon at Aldis last week for milk and $1.00 per half gallon at Kroger last night. Kroger had gallons of milk for $2.50. I don't know why anyone would buy a gallon, when 2 half gallons is cheaper.
I know a farmer, Tony, who Madco does some work for, who had 8500 dairy cows being milked, 8000 getting close to being milked, 5700 hogs and over 2 million laying hens, the last time I talked to him about it. He has his own feed plants that are fully automated and uses very large numbers of Mexicans. It would be very hard for a small farmer to compete. Keith

USDA price supports got us in the mess we are in today. States with the most lenient manure laws will attract the big dairies. That and water is why we are getting all the California dairies here in Wisconsin. Very True!^^^
