I just dip them in a thin mixture of speed dip. What ever you do it will have to be redone after a catch. The coon usually polish the traps up bare steel.

I spray painted mine some white and some black. Yes coon remove coatings like no other creature. Jim

I never bother, for the reason stated. Waste of time.

After the season, boil mine to clean out bait, dye n wax them just to keep rust down.

I make sure to catch a raccoon in each one before the end of the season and let them clean them up for me... The DPs which don't catch a raccoon by the end of the season either get sold for insubordination or go into to boiling cauldron of dye, then the wax pot.

If I want white, I put on white duct tape or spray paint. Coon clean everything off regardless. End of season, all DPs go into buckets of hot water and dawn for 30 minutes, then I scrape and flush old bait out and rinse. During the summer I go over all DPs and put a piece of stiff fiberfill under the trigger and decide how many white ones to paint or tape. Or just set as is
Never too old to learn

do not wax them unless you like catching mice , they fire that easy after a waxing.
I waxes my first batch, not knowing and they have caught several mice
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
