I have an 89 F350 that the power steering pump pulley came off of. Can I just replace the pulley or do I need to purchase a new pump?

See if the pully spins and check your other belts for cracking if it's not a seized bearing then replace the belt.

As long as the shaft isn't damaged you should be able to put a new one on. If it had locked up and spun on the shaft it will be toast.

It appears that the pulley center broke out, I can turn the pump shaft by hand. There is some back and forth play on the pump shaft, 1/8" or so. Do I need to remove pump to get the center of pulley off of pump shaft?

Thanks for any advise.

You will need a steering pulley puller to remove the hub from the shaft and a pulley reinstaller tool to put the new pulley back on. You can usually borrow one from the auto parts stores. They will charge the cost of the tools to your credit card and when you bring them back will credit your card. Since the hub stayed on the pump shaft, your pump will work fine and you do not need to remove the pump to do the pulley stuff. I normally put a film of grease in the hole on the new pulley to make it slide back on easier and have never had any problems after doing that. Good Luck. With the special tools this is an easy job.

I bought an expensive redhead steering box, started leaking 6 months later, I guess 350$ didn't fix my problem, no better than 200$ gear box
