Totally disagree with this. Way to much evidence that disproves it. There are Christians in every country in the world, even in countries where it can and does cost you your life.

I have met so many people in my career as a guide that were born in the city, their family never hunted fished or trapped, and in some cases were even rabidly anti everything outdoors, yet they hunt, fish, trap, and vote just like you might. As a matter of fact one of the fastest growing segments in the outdoor pursuits comes directly from the city. I know the vast majority of people that come north to hunt or fish live in the city and make their living there. I know a couple of NYC firefighters that live in the Bronx, grew up there, and have no ties to the country that are more passionate about hunting and trapping than anyone I know. The Trump boys are another example....they come from high class city roots....their family doesn't hunt or fish....yet Don jr loves nothing more than camping in a pup tent on the side of a mountain hunting sheep.

And that also can be a produc tof the environment they are born into.
Christians don't have a lock on being the most moral religion.

Hey, I just realized something. This potentially divisive thread has made it to 12 pages and we've kept it pretty civil, I guess us trappers are evolving.

There's a reason you met people from the city who hunt, your a guide. Believe me, they are the exception, not the rule.

That is very true hippie but it proves your point is wrong when you said that "born in the city to an anti, your not gonna believe what we country boys believe and do."

Its also true that not all country folks hunt, fish, trap, or vote conservative, even though that environment is all around them.

Do you really think i meant every single one?

I'll say it this way...............Your more likely to be, christian if born here than in Iran or more likely to be anti if born to an anti in the city.

The reference is the jist of what i said.

Sure you can live without it, same is true with many body parts.

Some animals mate for life. That's more moral than a lot of people.

We might have the most Christians here, but Christianity is growing like crazy in countries that have no Christian tradition, like China. And it is growing in a lot of countries that are mostly Muslim. The technology we have today means the gospel can more easily spread into areas where people desperately need hope. They can now put the whole Bible on a cell phone sized device pretty cheaply.

Humans are sentient beings. Lower life forms do not possess the higher levels of intelligence required to be self-aware, the power to to perceive, reason and think.

Tell that to my buddy Randy's dog Elmer. Elmer will not be in agreement with your assertions.

On the other hand...

“For instance, on the planet Earth, man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time. But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons.”

I believe not because of what is written or spoken but what I have experienced personally. I continue to belive because of the consequences of obedience and disobedience.

I forgot about that one.

Of course the book is much better, but I watched the movie not long ago.

I found a leather-bound edition containing all six of Adams' novels for a ridiculously low price at Alibris a while back, just finishing up the last one (Mostly Harmless) now.

Elmer goes over to where the ball is and grumbles at us to get it so that we can throw it and then barks at us to go get it.
It takes a combination of arrogance and ignorance to conclude that Man is the most intelligent life form on this planet.
We are merely the current place holder. We are so much more frail than just about every other species on the planet, that we will be one of the first to go extinct from a relatively minor global disaster.
Meanwhile, Elmer will figure out how to work our door knobs and raid all off our pantries of the Milk Bone dog biscuits.

I have them all on my kindle and when I still sailed long deliveries and such and single hand for weeks on end, every now and then I read one again. No matter how many times you read them, they still make ya smile and giggle

This is my first reread in more than twenty years. Adams had a fertile imagination.
