I have caught a couple hundred beaver. But never by the tail..... This is at a ADC job, the 440 was set in the brake of the dam How, why, no lure it was set and obvious. Maybe she tried setting it off with her tail, she has covered my 330s in the past with seaweed. She has been a tough gal to catch. 9 male suitors, and 23 kits and she just keeps out smarting me Never caught one by the tail before

I have caught and held some by the tail in a Belisle 330 but never anything like you found. Something helped itself to your beaver IMO. I do not believe the beaver is capable of tearing its tail off without help.

Well it happened overnight as I set it yesterday, and I had a trail camera set on the other end of the dam and the only thing I catured was three raccoons cross the dam all over an hour apart
It was not set up to capture the set itself as the dam is about 2 feet high at the break, but the coons set it off right after crossing the break and walk right at the camera
There are a lot of snapping turtles in the location, I actually thought that was what had set it off when I got there as I could see the trap laying in a foot of water but nothing in it, then when I lifted it had the tail
It was also pulled tight about four feet from the dam but in the water
This has been an interesting place to trap. This year so far 5 males 39-45lbs and 7 kits 19-25 lbs

I would say that since you didn't see any parts or pieces in isn't turtles it would take them days to eat. I would say that a Predator of some kind Bobcat or what ever took you catch, a free meal.

No bobcats here, and unless a animal came walking in the water it would have triggered my camera. As the only approach to its location was super thick or on the dam

That chain is actually on my RBG 440, I'm expecting a really big one. I actually put that chain on there to tell my non trapping relatives it was a bear trap and now I can't open the S hook
