Yes, it does occupy your mind but it also trains your mind to be able to problem solve under extreme stress. Doing math problems mentally while your heartrate is pretty elevated is not easy. but it gets easier if you do it often. There is a noticeable difference after a while of doing it.

This mental training can translate to being able to think better in a bad situation that you may find yourself in.

It really works well.

Totally true. They are not my kind of workout but probably a smarter workout than just a weightlifter.

Kettlebells can be a whole body workout which gives you strength and conditioning.
