They expect human smell around them, heck many have paper towels or rubber gloves laying on them. Take the contents of a deer's rumen (stomach) as long as it does not contain corn or acorns (that will attract rodents), and mix it with the blood from inside a deer's body cavity. The more it sours the better. Use a golf ball size amount for each set. Especially good in early winter, after deer season.

Deer and pure quill road kill that's 4-5 days old grind course. 1/2 tsp eccense per gallon of meat no preservative maybe a pint of vegetable oil to keep it loose and pastey if its a warm season by the end its super loud! I prefer my deer to be green just under the skin! Its the one thing I find the yotes here find interst in during our never ending deer seasons! I start watching the ditchs in mid october LIVE LIFE LIKE THEIR IS NO TOMMORROW

This. When I switched from "store bought" bait to chunks of fresh meat,( deer, beaver, muskrat, rabbit) my catch rate doubled , almost tripled.
