Does anyone out there use dog food with a little sumpin, sumpin mixed with it on there k9 line? I'm not trying to replace bait or lure but I would like to add something extra to the set. Like every western state we usually have high winds and I would like to spread a small amount of the mix a little further away from the set leading up to the set. I'm not always able to make my set close to the travel route due to tractors or for some other reason. I would also like to use it as a small bait station for corners on circles for snares. I see where lots of people use it for raccoons but not so much for canines.

commercial dog feed is made of mostly grain. the protein comes from powdered feather meal. poultry intestines cooked dehydrated into meal, beef processing scraps of intestines bones some organs cooked dehydrated and ground into meal. if you pen up a coyote they will eat it. after they go hungry a few days. fox and coyotes that live in town will eat some. most of the time they already are off peoples porches or whatever. with all the grain that is in it, 75% or more, coons and possums are quick to eat it.

nothing wrong with saving money but there is a good reason lure and bait makers keep selling their wares.

My intention was not to stop using baits and lures but add a something else to the set in certain areas. I was thinking of adding some grease or even a bait mixed with the dog food in a sealed container for a period of time

I think there would be a lot of other stuff that would work better. Scraps from deer, bobcat meat, scraps from butcher shop, road kill or anything that's a real meat base. Trap some mice or rats and work with that maybe.. I think as a general rule for coyotes you would have better success making sure you have at least one set up wind of their travel area with a good lure that's designed to call a coyote in. May take 2 or 3 sets at each location to cover every wind situation but if it's a good location you might want that many sets there any way.

blood meal is red blood cells only. the plasma is removed with a centrifuge and the red blood cells get flash froze into meal. the plasma is human food. get some blood meal and play with it. I think its usesless for k9's and cats

A guy could mix the dry dog food with a light application of fish oil and use that

Thanks MChewk, I was thinking the same thing, others had mentioned various types of meat not legal here has to be 25 ft away from the set. I saw a video some guy using something he calls coyote chum, tactical trapping is the name of the company

Koss, one trapper I know takes the time and grinds his dry dog food up. Now he has options, he at times mixes it with some salt, or fish oil, or etc. ...sky is the limit.
