I went to about 3 spots today looking for shrooms. Placed a thick dose of 35% deet Tick repellent on my clothes. Ticks are thick, pulled at least a dozen off my clothes, arms and neck. Even had one on my back I seen after I showered. My clothes are out side on a pile. All that and only 4 shrooms...... need more than that little shower we got a couple days ago. 35 miles SE of me they are getting lots of shrooms, but they had an inch and a half plus for rain. Maybe tomorrow I'll find more shrooms than ticks..... hope so!!

Ugghhh .....amazing the ticks you have. I have never had them on me hardly ever. Even in skinning my deer in fall. Shroom hunting in spring- exploring everywhere- including elk beds around fir trees . Not one.

I take precautions in dress and spray all the time then- but I never get them or see them at all.

I think the far northwest is a unique area in moist cool temps that naturally repels them. Just a guess. Something has them rare in the whole area here.

Nonetheless, care is well taken in every adventure.

The black morels are just beginning to pop up now. More drying and saving for the good meals coming !

Buy yourself some permetherin, Deet is not a tick repellent. Use the stuff I am telling you about and your tick problem will go away. You spray all your clothes with the stuff and then let them dry. Spray the night before you use your clothes. The stuff is supposed to last through several washings. try it, you will like it. My trapping partner was telling me all he needs is the Deet, but he and I went in the woods day before yesterday and he got several ticks on him and I got none.

x2! Pre trapping season my trapping jacket, hat and pants get a spray from the pressure sprayer with a heavy mix of permethrin! We got every tick that carries disease here and thick!

Don't buy or try Repels Tick junk in Red can...it attracted ticks

You can buy it at sporting goods stores maybe even Wal Mart usually in the camping supply section. I have a can of it by me now, Coleman insect treatment, gear and clothing, unscented permethrin. I've watched ticks crawling on my treated pants and within a minute curl up fall off and die. Deet is worthless for ticks.

I buy fly and tick spray for horses from the local tack shop. Find one with a highest percentage of permetherin, spray on your pants and let dry...

The permethrin is the way to go . They also make clothing called Elimitick . We have been using it for about six years and we never get a tick on us .

Took a hike for turkey the other day had 3 that I found and had another yesterday just letting the chickens out so they are out seen a few June bugs last night also the chickens will be happy.

In California I had a good client who was an avid turkey hunter and an entomology professor at UC Berkeley and an expert in ticks. He did a study and found that if you sat next to a hardwood tree in northern California for 20 minutes you had an 80% chance of having a tick on you. The most surprising thing to me was that some of the juvenile ticks you can have on you are almost impossible to see or find. They need a blood meal to survive to the next stage when they look like ticks.

Permethrin works better than anything I heard of. Years ago a company started selling a line of fishing and hunting clothing called "Buzz-Off" that was treated with Permethrin. It worked great against mosquitoes and black flies but most folks didn't know about the ticks.

It is listed as some sort of cancer agent, but it is derived from a plant.

I have to try to find some here as I'm looking forward to a bad tick season.
