Well getting started on my trap cabin. Ran a bunch of material out my sled this winter, and just about ready to start the footings. I am building the floor in three sections, each four foot eight wide and having each section spray foamed on the under side. That way no critters will get in the insulation. Floating everything out four miles by barge and winching the sections up the trail to the cabin site. Just brought concrete out by boat. Hope to get the footings done before the bugs hit!

I am real busy but hope to have it all framed in by fall. We will see how it goes. I am real slow, but will update things as I go. Had more pics, but lost them.

Here is the floor in the driveway. Cabin will be 24x14.

This is about the extent of one of the floor panels. Already had some friends sneak a mini excavator into the site by barge and dig the footings. Why do it by hand with all our rocks and roots.

Well I am very slow, but I will show you the stages! Skinning area will be 14x8, and the rest living area. It will be fully insulated, but the plan eventually is to foam the inside of the skinning portion and have a direct vent propane heater keeping it at five degrees so it never freezes in skinning part. Wood stove in the living area. Because I work in construction, I have left over laminate flooring for it, galvanized steel roofing, really good windows, a new propane fridge, cabinets, a stove, and even stainless steel skinning bench material and tile for wherever I want it. It's nice to have leftovers, so I may as well use them! Gonna have an indoor composting toilet, and hot shower off of the wood stove eventually. That's the plan!

White, we use tiger foam occasionally, and never had much of an issue. We do have carpenter ants, but I also have a few liters of dragnet permethrin concentrate. Since it is on piers, will be easy to keep the place bug free.

Got some time this weekend to get the rest of the holes dug out and the footings poured. As you can see, Steph did all the work. I just read the transit and napped...kia the waterdog supervised...

Now to get the guy to spray foam the floor and get that on the footings and walls can begin!

That is going to be a great project. It brings back memories of when I built my line shack and shed/work shop. Keep us in the loop on your build interesting stuff.

Yea, I am enjoying the process so far. I had posted some pics a while ago on a different thread showing the barge crew digging the footings with their mini excavator, but can't find it now. Oh well. Things are crazy busy here in the summer, so it will progress slowly, but I am basically laid off in winter and shoulder seasons, so should have plenty of days to work on it once things freeze up

I get/got a kick out of the "remote" Alaska shows. All of a sudden they have tractors, excavators, power tools, the works!

Life ain't supposed to be easy.

I am not what would considered remote. town of 250 full time residents, but the population explodes to well over 3000 in the summer for part of june, july and august. Seasonal cottages, and city money. We are three or so hours from Toronto, but only have two roads off the highway. The cabin site is water access only, about five or six miles from where you can load, but only about a mile or so from the road through the bush. interesting terrain, so foot trail through only.

I manage a construction company specializing in water access only custom cottages and service. We work with a very nice Mennonite barging company who services our area, and they were able to dig the piers with their mini ex for free! just needed to walk it up through the bush to the site. As part of the public land work permit, I cannot use any machinery to build it may till November due to endangered species risks (hogwash) but anyway...

Since I cant obviously get a spray foam machine to the site, I decided to build the floor at my house, trailer it down to the water, forklift it onto a pontoon boat, and bring it out that way. The plan now is to use a small trailer and winch to winch the five foot wide x 24' sections up to the build site and set in on the support beams.

What I know of those Alaska shows I learned on here, since I don't have TV, but my situation is a good mix of no one around, and accessability year round for me.

Hutch, tell Steph that carrying a bucket on each arm is better than struggling with one unbalanced. A good supervisor would have made that suggestion to her...You must have been napping when she was doing that work, and the pic is from your trail camera!

I will pass that info on to our dog kia, who was supposed to be supervising Steph while I napped!
