I am lookin at cage traps. I generally use snares, DPs and conibears but seems lately like all my family and friends need me to catch a nuisance animal once a week, and I mean that. Every dang week someone needs me to get rid of a possum, coon, squirrels, groundhogs, etc - and as any ADC guys on here can attest, there are limitations to what equipment works best in these scenarios.

For instance after my great grandmother got really PO'ed at me when a DP'd coon ripped a ring in her yard today I figured I'm gonna cave and get a couple of nice cage traps to round out my toolbox.

Any suggestions? I would prefer double doors so I can do some blind sets when necessary. Favorites? Looking for durability, affordability, and reliability in that order.

I make my own out of 12.5ga 1X2 wire and that wire has never been broken yet doubt it ever will!

I have a few from Mercer Lawing. Very dependable and reliable cage and have no issues. He has a site type in his name and cage traps.

Kirk Dekalb's advanced trap is the best I've ever used and I've made my living for over a decade with cages.

Size depends on the animal you are after.

I prefer Little Wolf Trapping Supply. The business is based in Manawa, Wi. He has a Facebook page. Great guy, very high quality cages. I don't think he sells double doored traps tho.

Will be targeting mainly coon with it. Nothin' bigger. Would like models with ability to adjust pressure plate sensitivity though

Little Wolf's would be perfect for coon. I bought it for Fisher, and it worked fine for that, but I've caught plenty of coon in it. It's built like a rock, and the pan plate has adjustable tension.

I like a 14X14X36 12ga 1X2 trap they take everything from a barn rat to a Coyote! The problem with going smaller is your limiting the species you can catch, this is more for the fur trade VS ADC work when you targeting 1 specific critter.

If you are looking for one or two traps to pretty much cover everything I would get the 36 inch Universal Comstock trap. It's built to last with extremely fast doors, it comes with a built in box to cover den sites so most of the time you can go baitless with a positive made set. The Williams traps and Comstock traps are the traps of choice for my company.

If you think the cage is a solution to a torn up spot in the yard, think again! There are things you can do, but if you place them in the grass, you will just have a square spot verses a circle. Take precautions!

I have 2 Havahart large one door traps. They work very well on ground hogs that rip up our vegetable gardens. Foothold traps set above ground on our property is not an option, mom's rule. If I want to trap I play by the rules.

I have my best luck with the Havaharts when I use cantaloupe for bait and sort of cover the trap with weeds and brush. When our cantaloupes aren't in season I get some at our Giant store from the produce manager who will save me one from those that go bad if I ask him.
