Do you use them?

If so, how high above coon set?

Nope, or at least not usually. I set my coon traps where he's going to step right over it

Jmo, you'd be better off using eye appeal, and set where there is sign. Bait and lure should draw from there. Coons see very well at night. From testing, I believe their eyesight is better than their sense of smell.

I've had good luck with Jeff Dunlap's lightning in a bottle. Pulled coon into most of my cat sets.

I quit using this as it turned every rat set into a coon set, they'll darn sure swim a ways to get to it. If a rat beat a coon to the set then the rat would get ate by the coon.

A call lure won't catch you less coon. If and when I trap coon I use every tool In the box.
"Pro coon" will reach out and touch them.

You guys must have more coon then rats If that's you results when using Rat all Call.

Out of 1000s of rats sets In the Dakotas over several years I can only remember catching maybe 10 coon. I wouldn't make a set with out Lennos rat all call.

A good gland lure has worked well for me here when the boars are running. Coyote, fox, coon, bobcat, and otter gland all seem to work. I haven't seen any difference in putting it at ground level or head height.

Agree on gland. Almost any good Fox/coyote lure will work well on boars.
Mink musk has calling power too.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

When you trap raccoon in extreme cold weather , especially during January, (which is the rut , here) you will find that skunky call lures, or even just straight skunk essence will pull in more big boar raccoon and do it at a greater distance than most things you'll use.

Has anyone tried dipping the top or rim of their DPs in some sort of reflective paint for eye appeal?

Don't you have to shine a light on reflective paint to make It reflective?
Those road side reflective markers don't shine until the head lights hit them.

I use a call lure but not to pull the coon. I do not try to pull coon more than 10 feet with odor. Sight would be used for more than 10 feet It is more to create an interest or curiosity. I place the call lure 1 to 6 feet depending on how I want the scent cone to work. meaning do I want the call lure to keep working on the coon coming in and combine with the bait lure smell in the trap or do I want the call lure to disappear and the bait lure in the trap to take over. Sight appeal also has a lot of positive when combined with the calls and primary odors.

I don't know If this pertains to coon or not. But last season when I was snaring coyotes I used a call lure.

I had dumped some deer carcasses In some prairie ground. I wasn't having to much luck. So I figured If I placed some loud call lure Up off the ground a few feet. Actually 5' I would get their attention. It wasn't right at the carcass but a few yards away. And I did It In 2 locations around the carcass. I figured I needed to play any change In the wind.
It worked. I got their attention and got them with In smelling distance of those deer carcasses. It was winter and the deer carcasses were frozen hard. Once I had a few tracks In the snow I hung some cable. There were a few deer trails around those carcasses but I tried to stay away from them.

But I think the same thing applies to coon trapping. Draw In the ones that aren't within that 5 to 10 foot range.

Testing deer scents back in the early 90's really showed me a lot about trapping scents with the air currents and cones. For example misting from 16 plus feet up in a tree stand with a consistent wind I could get deer to react to scent from 50 to 100 yards but the deer would not pick it up in closer than 40 to 50 yards ( pay attention or acknowledge, not always come to investigate) Scent hung 6 feet the average area is 30 to 50 yards depending on the wind but again depending on the wind would lose it as they got closer to the source and on the ground average is out to 30 yards max, most times with little wind 10 yards.

On a good trapping call lure that I refer to as heavy or very strong, a lima bean size glob placed 6 feet will cover 30 to maybe fifty yards in a open area less in a thick area. But seems to disappear at around 6 to 10 yards on the ground level, with a steady wind the scent travels over the coon fox then hits the ground and rolls with the wind. at less than 6 to 10 yards the lower ground level scent cone takes over. Again this is just general observations and I may not be accurate in distance.

Maybe it’s my old nose or something. But the jar of Lennon’s muskrat super all call I just bought smells an awful lot like Carman’s Hudson Seal.

In the Trapper & Predator caller 2015 Yearbook.. Story called "Catch Big Coons" the guy uses Red fox gland lure.. If you think about it how many guy's catch coons in fox or coyote dirt hole sets using gland lure.
