We're leaving tonight to head down to Jackson County Georgia. Want to stop in either Nashville or Chattanooga for breakfast. Any recommendations or places to stay away from? I really like checking out historical city centers if that helps.

I'd stop before Nashville just to avoid stopping in Nashville. Otherwise plan on Chattanooga though be advised the run up and over Monteagle can be rather tiring as it's a twisty climb and descent.

Via I24?

Downtown Nashville seems pretty cool.

What part of GA are you in?

24, yep.
Don't know downtown Nashville as I'm of the don't stop until someone's bladder explodes school of driving. Downtowns are to be avoided for me. Chattanooga has more draw for me because the 32nd Alabama was atop Missionary Ridge in November of 1863. I'm kin to or a direct descendant of many on the regimental rolls.

I'm 40 miles south of Atlanta in Spalding county. Two miles due south of Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Cant be any worse than Chicagoland or Atlanta.

Hoping on a Friday before a holiday commuter traffic will be light.

You're over on your PMs.

We'll be staying in Monroe and my 13 year old nephew from Palm Beach is meeting us there. Any public land near by we can tramp around on that you know of?

Cleared out space.

Close to Monroe is our DNR HQ in Social Circle. They have a public dove field there. Joe Elliot WMA is just south of that. Fishing and hiking trails there. To the east is Hard Labor Creek State Park and further east is Oconee National Forest.
If you go an hour north you have Tallulah Gorge and Falls. Lots of stuff north of Monroe since it's mostly all national forest up in the mountains. Some good stocked trout fishinge in the mountains.

Nashville has all the music row stuff if ya like country music and the history of it. Personally I like Chattanooga better, not as much traffic. The downtown area is pretty nice for a city. Too much concrete for me, but the aquarium and IMAX are pretty neat. I have been working in Chattanooga for the last month, headed back down there Sunday morning. If ya like cast iron stop in South Pittsburgh, between Monteagle and Chattanooga, home of Lodge. They have near about anything cast iron you could imagine.

A great place for breakfast is The Loveless Cafe on the west side of Nashville just a few miles south of I-40. From there you can avoid the Nashville traffic if you want and go through Franklin,TN. A very historic town, lots of Civil War history, lots of country music connections. The you have options to easily get on I-24 and continue on towards Chattanooga.

Thanks. Ill check out the dove field. I think Hard Labor is real close.

The Shoals are next to the "homestead" but I think thats more of a park.

Got a late start so Nashville it is. I looked up Loveless. Looks like a cool place for our family. We'll be stopping there. Greatly appreciate the recommendation.

I been to both a few times, unless you just love eating with a pile of folks I would eat out in the country some where. Now there a pile of things to see in both towns. I like Chattanooga's over size fish bowl and Look Out Mt. is a cool place. I bet there will be so many folks in both towns this week end be hard for one to turn around in em. Enjoy your trip down here, just a little under 90 so still ain't got to warm yet.

Well Loveless was an hour wait for a table so we just got the bbq sandwiches which were good. Cool place but got a flat tire in the parking lot.

Both Nashville and Chattanooga had horrible traffic. This 14 hour drive turned into 20 becausw of traffic in Tennessee and car issues. Feels good to be in GA finally.

My brother inlaw hit Atlanta about 3pm yesterday and said that it took him 2 hours to get 30 miles.
