I was wondering if anybody here ever had one of these dogs and if you could tell me your experiences with them. I am thinking of getting another dog and from what I read, they appear to be an interesting breed due to its loyalty, hunting ability, fierce family protection qualities, stand your ground dog type of dog with coyotes and larger wild animals and also a great family pet.

Mine will tree squirrels, coon and bobcat right beside the redbone. Thinks she is a lap dog at times and no doubt in my mind will tackle a coyote if she sees it as a danger to the family. I haven't used her on the trapline as yet though. I know several use them as a decoy dog as well.

I own three Kemmer Stock, tree squirrel, work the trapline and coon hunt all in the same day.

They vary with the particular strain and within a strain, the last female I had and her son I still have are rather timid for dogs that tree and standoffish with people, including me. Others that I have been around were opposite in both those respects. Some have great noses and some not so great.
Make a precise list of the things you want the dog to do and find a breeder whose dogs meet that criteria. When the adult weight can vary from 30# to 60# you know they ain't all 'zactly alike genetically.

I've owned several there great all around dog, they can stay relatively closer than a hound.In my area I switched from hounds to mountain curs because of the range that they hunt.Areas that I hunt are shinking.Dont misunderstand some curs hunt out pretty far but they seem to come back to check in with you, before they go out again.Just my experience with the ones I've had.There different than hounds in the respect,that curs are more conscience of you if they don't trust you forget it, treat them lightly a heavy hand is not the way to train a cur.My one cur would curl up in my lap and never leave my side, it drove me crazy, only because I hunted hound for years and was used to cuttin them loose and they would go.Depends on what your looking to do.I got sick every time my hounds would get close to a road.I m getting to old and tired of chasing hounds all over the country.Curs will tree pretty much anything.Theres a guy in PA that uses them on bobcats it was really a site to see.The cur would sit back and watch the cat.When the cat jumped to another tree the cur would follow with his eyes, while the hounds were still on the tree the cat went up.Smart
