my wife watches ours quite closely and this morning she noticed a charge for 600 dollars.
she immediately asks me did you put anything big on the card lately.

I do form time to time have to order things and expense them getting my reimbursment but had nothing recent.

well it was 600 dollars at a place that sells fancy shampoo and such well we certainly didn't order that the bank was notified , charge disputed and card has been canceled less than 24 hours after the charge was made but scary stuff.

it pays to keep one card you only use for online stuff.

we don't use this card for anything you would consider risky , mostly major online retailers and a few local purchases.

so someone got hacked and lost our info or somewhere we went local skimmed out info from the card.

Indeed. Most banks will drop it for you today without asking.

the credit union was smart enough to realize we weren't Christmas shopping in WI in the morning and in GA less than an hour later.

the credit union is very easy to work with , I just wish people would stop stealing or trying to steal from me.

We had someone else's check charged against our checking account one time. There it was on the statement including a copy of the check. That's a pretty major error on the part of the bank but banks make mistakes too. They fixed it but if I had not caught it we would have been $200 poorer.

All my credit cards are set for an alert for the lowest amount possible most $1.00 one of two are at $10.00 . I get a text and email if it exceeds this amount.

I never use my bank account for anything. I got a walmart money card (green dot debit card). I take the money I need from the bank in cash and go load it to my card to be used for paying bills and buying things. I never keep much of a balance on the card so if it gets hacked, they get nothing. I have been called paranoid, but I'm ok with that.

Good thing it was a place that sells shampoo instead of a gun shop. That would have been hard to explain to the wife.

I had a credit card stolen at Tractor Supply once. From talking to the store manager, I think the girl working the register stole it. It was used many times at the gas station next to Tractor Supply and many times at another gas station close to her house, in 2 days. My credit card company noticed it before I did. I had never used either gas station. The credit card company immediately took care of the problem for me.

You also should check your receipts from grocery and other stores. Cashiers frequently ring items multiple times. We check our grocery receipts and find errors on about 20% of them.

I have a regular checking account and my business account.Last week my business account got hacked somehow but only charged $41.Still more than I like.Had to get a new card.The charge was made in Mexico City.

Haha, my bank watches my debit card like a hawk. I finally just started notifying them when I plan on out of state trips. They did finally quit calling on hunting equipment though. Been hacked once in all my years, but they caught it immediately. It was used for a $300 pair of Nikes, lol.

If you have a smart phone and if your bank has an app you can get notice of activity there quickly. My phone dings before I can get my wallet back in my pocket if I buy something over the limit.

My CC company paid for someones family to go to Disneyland once. Phone conversation: Are you sure you did not go to Disneyland CA last week? (total bill $600) Me: Yeah I live and work in MO and am pretty sure I would have remembered that.
