Would this not screw up everything? I must be missing something.

Seasons and depletion and babies, right?

State regulations apply, as they should.

That "news" story has some pretty sensational and slanted statements. In actuality the Trump move will merely return wildlife management to the State where it used to be (and should be).
Now if we could just get him to return the management of marine mammals to the State; that would be fantastic.

Sea otter's even better. When I was fishing in Homer they where EVERYWHERE.
According to the locals, there used to be a lot of shellfish in the kachemak, but not since the otters moved in.

WRONG!!!!!

If you are unfamiliar with Alaska hunting and trapping regulations I suggest you educate yourself.

Most Alaskans are loving parents and babies in Alaska are no more at risk than those in your state.

I guess I just don't understand.

I was talking (unrelated) this past weekend to a old man friend of mine who has been trapping essentially his entire life. He was explaining (again, unrelated to this instance) how they're trying to make coyote trapping year-round in the NE (like they I guess have in Ohio) and how it's a bad thing. So to open the season here (and I know it's AK which I know nothing about, different world, I get it)....from "during the denning season (between May 1 and August 9)" seems weird to me (layman).

I don't care about the baits, or shooting animals in the water where it makes sense, none of that... I'm just talking about whether or not taking wolves and coyotes during seasons when their hides aren't worth anything makes sense? And doesn't it then deplete the population for trappers?

I don't see any negative in having a year round coyote season. There are alot of states that do.

It might not make sense if you are in fact wanting good fur to sell. I might make perfect sense in areas and at times when you are trying to reduce predator numbers to ensure ungulate populations can maintain viable levels.

As Waggler said, Trump is returning management to the state...where it belongs. Some of the things alluded to in the article are already illegal under state law..or legal only in very limited instances for management purposes. The article is a pretty obvious piece of anti literature designed to mislead.

Someone should ask Shane Mahoney to weigh in. I'd like to know his opinion.

Unfortunately it would take an amendment to the marine mammal protection act of 1972 to return management of marine mammals to the state. But with Trump in office, it might be a possibility.
