I put the flowers on the Graves this past Tuesday. Grandparents and this year, my Dad. It was a pouring rainstorm, when I got to the Cemetery. But, it had to be done. Made a promise that there would always be flowers on my Grand Parents graves on Memorial Day. Kept that promise every year for 40 straight years. Now, I add my Dad to that list.

Just got thru putting out around 200 flags on our veterans graves here in our local town. Our local chapter of Texas Hunters for Heroes does this every year.

My brother mows our local cemeteries. I always help him this time of year mostly weed whipping and some mowing. I walk by hundreds of veterans graves. Some from the mid 1800s. Gives you a idea of how many went and did what needed to be done. It was hard at first but now I just nod my head and say thanks, and make sure their stone is clear (even it has been 50 years since anyone has visited).

I have also seen too many stones for kids under 5. I sure hope modern medicine has stopped this. Those stones are hard to see (if you know what I mean).

A huge thanks to those that have served and those that did not come back, I owe you a debt I can not pay back. But if you are in my neck of the woods I will do what I can.

Thank you for posting Marty - point well taken. And thank you for the reference to the Canadians. Our family had a couple never came back and more that came back broken up.

Not to detract from the point of the post but the story of the Star Spangled Banner is a great stand alone and very inspirational story. The video story posted above thought is greatly embellished. Anyone mind to read the actual history of what happened at Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Maryland will know this. The Star Spangled Banner can fly quite high and proud on its own without embellishment. It has long, and quite rightly, earned the immense respect of freedom and peace loving people around the world.
