I have stumbled across some old DP Coon Traps that were made by the DP Trap Co. in Talmage, CA. USA. They are the square kind with the hole on the side where the coon sticks his paw into and pulls the bait off of a forked lever. I have four of them with the setting tool that goes with them. Does anybody have any knowledge or opinions on these traps? Are they practical to use now or should I be treating them as antiques. Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

If they look like these, they are Yancy's. Use them and appreciate them. He was a great guy!

Yup, those are Yancy DPs. One of the original DPs. Started by another California trapper in the early 70s. Not sure when yam yam took over the ownership.

They are a functional trap but there are many newer better easier to use DP traps.

Thanks for your replies fellas. The bottom line is that a guy I know was cleaning out his garage and gave them to me because they belonged to one of his older sons who moved out and this guy doesn't trap. I use the newer DP Coon Cans and was just trying to decide if I should use these guys, put them on the shelf as decoration or sale them. I see their value I just know myself and I fear they will sit on the shelf, take up space and I will not use them.

Use them. They catch and hold raccoons BETTER than any other DP I have ever used. It wasn't for the need for a setting tool I wouldn't use any other DP trap.

My modifications to the trap to speed set-up, provide better swiveling, and secure parts...

A look inside...

A new updated video, just click on it...

When I set them up this way, it takes about 18 seconds to set and BAIT them with marshmallows and have them ready to stick in the ground. I can't set AND BAIT any other dog proof traps much faster than that. Video has other info on the jaw faces of the trap as well. Hope it helps some.
