I bought the shield in 9mm. I'm happy with it. Doesn't jam and goes bang. Nothing against glocks just bought the shield instead.
Don't do anything you don't want to explain to the paramedics. I do appreciate a good story tho.

My wife and I both carry Performance Center Shields .40 for concealed. I like it a lot but like every Glock I’ve carried or shot also. I know it’s not much help but I’d carry either. I’d shoot both and see what fit me best. The one thing I don’t like about my shield is the thumb safety. My dad has a .40 shield. He is left handed so he bought the safetyless model.
Your entitled to oxygen. Everything else is earned.

call local ranges that rent , try both one or the other is likely to fit you better or feel better.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Most folks like that pistol without an external thumb safety. The Shield is a good gun, so is the Glock. I’ve shot both and like them. OP, my suggestion is to try both and pick the one you like best. Personally, I would say to add the Springfield XDS to your list of pistols to try.
