Was at the barber Friday as I was getting cut there's a kid no more than 8 yo on a cell phone and a tablet. Thought it was sad.
The cell phone/tablet thing and kids bug me. I didn't want the kids to have tablets their grandparents bought them some. Daughter (9) wants a phone told her not until she gets a job and can pay for it. That didn't go over week with my wife. There's no need for a kid to have a phone especially a smart phone. Daughter says her grandpa and grandma said they'll pay for it. I told her no they won't she isn't having a phone until she gets a job

Grandparents are suppose to do those things....its one more act of revenge on us.

My in-laws and parent are the same, they're a million times more lenient and soft on out kids then they were in us.

My sons are older now 27 & 30.... my youngest says....what did you do in the old days ,when your car broke down ? I said ...we stuck out our thumb and someone gave us a ride to a pay phone ..and hopefully they answered....cuz there were no phone answering machines with message playback....and heaven forbid ...Ma was on the phone for an hour....cuz there was no call waiting either...LOL

I know they are supposed to spoil them tweed but my mom's whole life revolves around my nephews and anything they want and need, she takes it a little over board

Yep that's the normal. Kids these days are way to self important and can't stay off their phones, makes me wonder where we're going as a world

its the way society is now . no discipline no rules . they are all privileged .....u should know this by now. we created this monster ...it will only get worse.....let them run free .....after 18 not your responsibility any more ....

Kids these days are caught between a rock and a hard place. With all the social media and the ease of instant knowledge vs good old elbow grease to get something done. I raised 4 and they turned out pretty well I think. I do agree that you need to start them off early and to teach them that actions have consequences!!! My kids all showed livestock and we had some hard and fast rules that pertained to them like animals eat before you do, water tanks are never more then 1/3 empty, any rough treatment of them gets you rough treatment by me (spanking). I've pulled more then one kid from a show ring or off a horse due to the kids attitude. Phones are a privilege and must be earned, however as a single parent they are also a safety device. You eat what I feed you or go hungry( goes the same for their friends or family at my house). All these things if taught early stay with them, however I will admit I've mellowed with age and not as strict as I was at one point but I feel that its because I've gotten to be a better teacher and have made some lessons easier to learn. I've got a 17 year old son and he doesn't have a real job but is working for 2 different people doing yard work and what ever else they need , while trying to save enough to rebuild his truck engine. But he is at least working towards his goal and I'll help him when he gets about 1/2 saved, he doesn't know that I'll help he has to earn it.

Wow our water buckets are never allowed to go lower than 9/10ths NVwrangler!!! Just kidding but water is the most important thing here when it comes to the 400 million goats mom MUST have!

Our horses had a 150 gallon tank and the sheep a 50 gallon one it would take them 3 to 4 days to drink it all, however we are on a well and if it goes down for any reason I've got 3 to 4 days to get it fixed and in 100 degree weather that's pretty important. The kids all still follow that rule and never ever turn on a hose and walk away that gets you in deep trouble LOL

Makes a little more sense, Lol. 1/3 of five gallons isn't a whole lot. I'm glad we have a spring fed house. no worries about water.

I'm not sure of you all but I was a punk of a teenager. Sure I had a job but I needed to buy a car. I always did the bare minimum. ALWAYS! Don't mean I didn't pick up on what pops and gramps were doing and employ that later in life but man, A teenager is a teenager is a teenager.
