Good to see these little guys out and about in Nebraska. Coyotes have really put a hurting on our population. These guys are about as far out of the city as they get around here. Eight of them. Mama must be doing a good job. They look healthy as can be.

That's great... As many reds as we have here and it's a lot, litter size is typically 3 to maybe 4.

The fox here live around tight to the farm places only time they travel away from there during the breeding times. Cage a few in coon traps every year!

A lot more in town than out of town here too. I see them on the bike trails when I go for morning runs. Have yet to catch one just outside of town where our trapline starts. We used to pick up a few a little farther out along the creek bottoms and heavier cover areas. We started turning them loose and just taking the coyotes but not sure it made much difference.
Thanks for sharing the pics!

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

We always have a few around town, and spotty populations of them in the country. I do my best to leave them alone.

I stop by to check on my mom every morning, this morning I saw a big old tom cat in her yard and there was a fox across the street eyeing it. Long story short the cat saw the fox, jumped up the tree. Fox laid under the tree for quite a bit watching the cat. I was hoping the fox could have got the cat. Pictures aren't very good quality.

They are fun to see around, here they are a pretty rare oddity. We have a pair that usually has a litter somewhere around town. Funny I can always smell when one has been in my yard.... the odor of fox pee tends to stick in the air for awhile. smile

Had a beautiful dog fox cross in front of me about a month ago with something in mouth he had caught at Creek. Taking it to mom and pups denned in a barn. Caught many dog fox on complaints in s.d. killing chickens to take to dens.

I catch a few every year, either right on city limits or old abandoned farms where they can get away from the coyotes. We actually have a descent population I see in town. Only problem is they seem to get hit with mange every year. The places I catch them I take a couple every year, and they bounce right back. Saw the first one caught in the middle of a section 10-15 miles from town last year, wide open. I like to think trapping the coyotes hard on a few places the last few years will being a few back. They sure are neat. Only thing I enjoy catching more, and that's cats. Fox were the first animal that hooked me into trapping about 14 years ago.

When I watched a "red" stalk a ferrel cat (only thing that saved the cat was a small swell - ditch) the cat was cunning, seemed the fox was trying to approach from behind & the fox did not want to face the cat face to face. The cat would run for a few feet & then hunker down until the red would back away. One of the best shows we've (my wife & myself) seen.
