Some fella was selling blue buckets at the PTA rondy last week. He was selling lots of buckets, more than Lowe's.

What about a blue barrel set? Would I catch a barrel full of mink or coon? What about a blue pipe?

I heard from a girl, who read on the net, that Lirpa Loof invented the set.

Bet I know who was selling them at PTA.
He's been flooding the market for years but the set still produces.
That's why the coon, possum, and mink market are so low.
Good thing the set does not work on our high quality coyotes.

The original blue bucket with instructional dvd sold at the PTA auction over the weekend. I'm really upset I had to leave early...

I believe raccoons, like nearly all mammals, cannot differentiate color. If that is true, what is the attraction to blue? Does it reflect ultra violet light? Just wondering.

They don't see black and white but are "color blind". They can still detect some colors such as blue. The buckets probably have UV brighteners which can make them almost glow in the dark to animals.

If I were a raccoon I would WANT to stick my head in the blue bucket...I could not help myself.

I'm just happy to be here! Today I'm as young as I'll ever be and and older than I've ever been before!

Mine are beige (dirty white) or black and work well.
BUT, they are SQUARE 4 gallons I get from Lowes or Ace Hardware from when they get chain.
Square are easier to stabilize too.
Some drill holes in bottom (end) for odors to flow but I cut a window bout 2"x4" and pop rivet 1/4" rat wire (hardware cloth) over it.
I do drill a hole TO SUSPEND THE BAIT...this keeps mice from stealing it.

The most important aspect is A ROOF, or set the trap 8-10" back to keep dogs out.
I drill holes for a quick attach roof that overhangs bout 10-12".

Since coon travel as family units I'll set 1-2 buckets, 3-4 DP's and maybe a couple pocket and/or blind sets with footholds where sign is present.

I believe that deer also see a difference in Blue.
So until Mr. coon and speak clearly we'll just keep trying to determine what his favorite color is

From the responses I see no one really knows how to make the blue bucket set for mink.

This thread is about COON bucket sets. Mink should be discussed on another thread.

What kind of thread highjacking jerk do you think I am?

Your right LOL

This Is the way the set Is suppose to be made for mink.

First you need to look for suitable water depths. If the bucket sits to high out of the water then the mink can't get up on top. So If the water Is to shallow you need to place a rock or a chunk of sod or a limb near the bucket so the mink can get on top.
You have to be careful of any current that may wash the bucket away.

Then you place some dirt on top of the bucket. Then add some dry dog food to the top of the bucket. What happens Is the birds fly down and eat the dog food and when doing so knock some off In the water. This In turn draws In crayfish and minnows to feed on the dog food. The mink then will hunt from the top of the bucket. So water depth Is very important when making this set.
You could just dump the dog food In the water and not have any bird problems. But that's the way It was explained to me.

You will probably have to add more dirt after awhile so you can get your trap bedded. And stop adding dog food so the birds won't set off your trap.

As you can see the original Blue Bucket Set was not Intended for trapping coon.
So using the Blue bucket terminology with coon sets Is probably some type of copyright Infringement.

Ten years ago I had a blue Chevy Z71 that was a real possum killer. Even added a few groundhogs during daylight hours.
