We bought some land a couple years ago. It had the most major pocket gopher problem I've ever seen. Well this spring I noticed no fresh mounds. I started looking around & noticed all kinds of large holes dug in gopher mounds. My guess is that coyotes, maybe fox, found & dug the gophers out of the ground. Strange.

Would badgers do that?

I got myself a seniors' GPS.
Not only does it tell me how to get to my destination,
it tells me why I wanted to go there.

Badgers do a number on pocket gophers in this area.

I grew up in West central WI and we had lots of pocket gophers and I trapped them and many times digging not far away from me was a badger in another colony. They can dig them out in short order.

The badger seemed to move on. Is it common for badger to hang out in an area, and then move on?

If they run out of gophers.

Diggers have core areas but also do a lot of traveling around it. Like trapper les said, they are after smaller burrowing critters. They're fun to watch o their thing especially if you ddon't have to fill in the holes and mounds they create grin
