Hundreds of Massachusetts Residents May Lose Their Gun Licences

Massachusetts authorities say hundreds of residents previously cleared by a state board to own a firearm may lose their gun licenses because of a clash between state and federal regulations.

The Boston Globe reports that the state began notifying police chiefs last month after federal law enforcement officials said the state's Firearms License Review Board, which considers whether people with misdemeanor criminal convictions should have a license, was clearing applicants who should have been disqualified under federal rules.

That group of 340 people includes police officers who without a license could be in danger of losing their jobs. The number of people in danger of losing their gun licenses is likely to grow.

Jim Wallace, executive director of the Gun Owners' Action League of Massachusetts, called it a "difficult scenario.'

That's pretty vague as far as what misdemeanor crimes. I'm assuming it's domestic abuse convictions?

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

That serves em right if they thought asking permission was the thing to do in the first place

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

What makes them so special that they should be allowed when others are not.

There used to be an exception for LE, but I believe that has been changed. Under the original Lautenberg act LE were more equal than the average person.

Maybe... Id bet its the other hangup, in 11.c
convicted of a felony or any other crime for which a judge could imprison you for more than one year, even if you received a shorter sentence including probation.

You are right and I was wrong. Before Lautenburg there was an exception for LE, it was called the public interest exception and it was written in the GCA 0f 1968. In 1996 LE was no longer allowed the exception as Lautenberg eliminated it for the military and LE.
