Hi guys we have lost 5 calves to coyotes and they have been shot at so many times calling just won’t work. Anybody trap them in summer if so plz help me on what lures to use

Why lure. Dead calf with lots of traps around it. If your terrain and laws allow

Try post set with fox and coyote urine. We're Killing the crap out of them right now on pee and fruit baits.

While not impossble, it would be highly unlikely for coyotes to kill 5 healthy calves. I would seriously investigate to make sure they’re not dying from other means and then being eaten by scavengers.

Any meat that the coyotes didn't eat will be cover in maggots in a few hours.

my experience is if the coyotes start killing calves (and it does happen to healthy calves) they will usually continue until calves are to big for them to handle. I have found that some blame every calf death on coyotes and some people will never blame a calf death on coyotes. I skinned a dead calf for my boss this spring that had puncture marks on back in kidney area and in throat and he still wouldn't accept it was killed by coyotes. And that is after we had lost 5 healthy calves. It was his calves so I'd did worry about it if he wasn't going to.

Sure it happens. But more often than not, the focus goes to coyotes while calves continue to die of sickness that could be stopped if caught in time. Point being, verify what they’re dying from. Never assume.
Around here, dogs would be a more likely killer, though coyotes get most of the blame.

You don't need to use as much lure in the hot temps. A lure like Gusto may not be as advantageous in the summer. Perhaps you'd like Carmans---they make a good all-around long distance call lure. Maybe put it a bit above/behind your set.

Try to think of sets that fawns will shy away from.

Hire somebody. if you lost 5 calves already it will be cheaper. the fact your on here asking about lure tells me your not going to get that coyote killed. type of lure or set is not the right question even.

Ok thanks the calves where pretty heathy it has been over a 2 month period there are no more calves left to get there all gone that’s why I asked about a lure also. Went out this morning and the Calf I found yesterday is completely gone bones are evry in a 40 ft radius. I talked to a gov trapper yesterday and there probly going to come set Cyanide but there really far behind and hope to get to our place by end of July. He said the hole state is encountering the same issues this year. Thank you guys for your help until he comes I’m going to be experimenting

how many calves have your neighbors lost? when you say govt trapper are you talking about a county guy? if you lost five (the whole crop) and neighbors lost none it seems odd. if neighbors are losing calves too why are there not already cyanide guns out and about???????????? if they are not losing them I doubt coyotes are the problem. 5 calves says to me anyway only a section or two of pasture?

Then Neighbors have lost a few yearlings but that’s what they all run around me no momma cows they bring in yearlings and feed them out a year and sell

Get yourself some yote urine and take a cleaned off bone set it in a prime trail going to the kill site, I like a walk though pee set, I would set 6+ traps around every taken calf and set your bone pile...
