I'm going to mount a low powered scope on my 1895 in 45/70 and I'm at a loss as to what bases I should get.

Looking at either the Warne 2 piece steel bases or EGW's picatinny rail.

Both have advantages. Warne made of steel. EGW is aluminum but has more front to back adjustment for better scope placement.

Cost is equal. $27 for each.

From what I read about the rail, people seem pleased with it.

What to do???

I mounted several scopes on Weaver 2 pc aluminum bases on Siamese Mauser’s modified for 45-70 back in my ‘smithing days and they held up fine. In this case I would probably go with rail
