There have now been two recent black bear sightings within 1 hour of my house. The less credible of the 2 a mere 15 minutes up the road!
For any who might not know, bears where eradicated here over a hundred years ago and until recently were not to be found south of Toronto.
It would appear they are making their way down the shore of Lake Huron as the other (more credible) sighting was just south of Sarnia (across from Port Huron MI).

People here are NOT prepared to deal with nuisance bears LOL, might be a good time to dust off the nuisance wildlife business cards LOL

This would have been my understanding of bear distribution in Ontario even just 10 years ago LOL.

We had a man killed two days ago by a grizzly and then one of the searchers was mauled ( probably by the same bear) while looking for his friend. Just outside of Anchorage

I hate to admit, but I am quite pleased that there are no (wild) grizzly bears anywhere near the yard my kids play in

Your map placed on Michigan would be about the same distribution. They are slowly working their way down towards me too(Slightly south of you). I can't wait until we have some more interesting animals around. No bear, otter, beaver, bobcat, cougar, or elk. It all got killed off and hasn't returned yet. Slowly but surely mother nature perseveres.

I was told today by a very credible source that 2 otters where trapped and one found roadkilled along the Detroit river near amherstburg last season. Otters are (were) long gone from here 100 years ago.

Getting that way here. The two most recent were in Fulton County (Atlanta inside the west perimeter) and Rockdale County (Conyers just outside the east perimeter).

I'm seriously considering fencing the yard with electric.

I would think bears would do great in Detroit. I hear there's a good pheasant population I'm the city too.

I live in an area where there are few black bears too. I saw one 3 times in a week or so, a couple of years ago. The funny thing is that people see the bears and think they are bigfoot. Farms adjoining mine had "bigfoot" sightings. One local man saw "bigfoot" drop to all fours and run away and a local woman saw "bigfoot" down on all fours looking in her window. It's strange how some people think the logical explanation is something supernatural like bigfoot rather than natural, like a bear.

Don't be surprised if you start hearing reports of bigfoot sightings in your area.

If they have legs, they can get there,lol. Bears are supposed to be east and west of me, but not here.about three years ago I kept having deer salt blocks missing so I put up a cam. Got mama and two Cubs pics all summer, and had one of the Cubs walk under me during bow season. It was an experience I had never had before. They moved on, haven't seen any more sign. At that time my county did not have a bear season but now it does.

Saw one sitting on the sidewalk 10 minutes east of parliament hill about 30 years ago ..
saw a beaver on the Wellington St right in front of parliament (the 4 legged kind!)

It is strange to consider how a population of bears may effect things by me. There is less than 4% tree cover in my area (some of the lowest in the country)... it looks much like SK or AB except all corn/wheat/beans instead of canola. There is NO roll or hills to the country and I can't think of anywhere where another home or business is not at most a mile or two away from any other spot.
Lots of food, no habitat. The level of human-bear conflicts would be off the charts.
