Mark what do you do with them summer cats? Auction or tan? arolina Foxer, I have a contact who buys all the cats I tan. I think they end up on the east coast during reenactment festivals. I do pretty well on them actually. And Great Northern Fur is outstanding in the work the do as far as tanning and price! _________________________ https://www.markjuneslures.com/Professional Predator Trapping Academy Host 2016, 2017 & 2018 booked Scheduling for 2019

Adam m,
The late season cats go to the tannery. About 75% of these came from "prime time" which is Jan-Feb. for me since I'm busy during much of March with our Predator Trapping Academy in Kansas.
Next year I may do a bit better as I move some better bobcat ranch trapping work to prime time and less productive ranches to later than that. I had four new high fence ranches this year and one that I trapped during late February produced 6 cats. Not too many for the acreage so I'll trap that ranch in May next year. Likewise a ranch I trapped in May I took 13 cats off of, I'll switch to late Feb when cats are really moving... should bump that number to 20+.
I know I caught cats in NE this year when I was the only trapper out that I know of in a pretty big swath of ground because the weather was windy and super duper brutal. Don't know where other trappers were, but western cats bring good money... and I like brutal ;-).

I hope one day I can attend one of your academy's one day. That sounds like a good solid plan and deal you got there Mark. Yes the western cats bring good money for sure.

Jtrapper,
If I had Rusty trap cats all season in the area I travel and trap.... heck, we'd need a bigger camera lens brother! And a bunch more skinning knives. I'm blessed to trap with RJ a little bit each year, wish we could team up more cause two heads and methods is usually better than one on the trap line. Four eyes seeing all that is looking at you is better than two also. Just is and RJ is the best I've ever worked alongside.
Hope you are staying well in AL and that security is keeping a close eye on you at all times HAHA!

Shane,
Thank you. We sometimes laugh out loud as we fall over tired at the end of another day... Most people have no idea the work goes into this thing! Only love for what you do carries you through it all. Otherwise, it's just way, way too much work. Even with good, good good time money.
