Yup, if it.s cast, take it to a pro.
For mild steel, E6011 penetrates deeper and solidifies faster. E6013 Fills faster. Both are general 'all purpose' all position rods.
Are they the best? NO, but depending on the particular model of welder you have it might not perform well with more specialized rods.
If it has DC capability, E7018 or E7014 would be great choices.

what chas said and
get several pieces of scrap steel together and run test beads first no ones first bead looks good and you need to adjust your amperage and find what the rod likes.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

If your wanting to practice i would pick up some of diff rods ,welding your cast go for the nickel 99 rods , 1/8 6011 on most steels and Lincoln has a very nice 7018 ac rod. i would look deeply into my breaking problem. o and my opinion go Lincoln all the way.
