I am sure there are better baits but I use saltine crackers for minnows and I always get crawdads as well

Fresh fish works best for me. The more ail the better. If you have Carp, it works great. I have tried canned tuna fish with holes, and cat food with very little luck. You must have enough bait to keep them eating and altering your trap check times are important. I found every 6-8 hours is best. Beware of trap thieves though. Check this out.

Catfish heads work very well in my experience. Crappie, bream, and bass scraps performed very poorly in my experience

Ok thanks

Dry cat food works great for minnows and crayfish and it last pretty long.

I use chicken liver put in pantyhose tied up in the center of the trap. You need to put two rocks on the side of the trap to hold it up right. If not they will get under it and eat it through the bottom of the cage.

As a kid we used beef liver on a string. Throw it out there for 5 mi items at a time.

I just made 4 traps out of some 1/2 inch mesh I had laying around. For bait I used frozen cut up spawned out salmon from last fall (use it for coon bait too) and it worked fantastic. Had a nice mix of craw dads minnows and some small blue gills.
