I got me my 1st No BS trap yesterday, at FTA. The KO Jr. Seems good. Very nice people. Curious, does anyone know about the black coating that comes on it? Is it to help preserve it? I still plan on boiling it like a regular new trap.

Secondly: I talked to the Sleepy Creek booth. Finally got to see the 440 Nitro that I was asking about on here a while ago. Wow, what a trap. Strong, well built, and premium quality. If we get a wolf season again, I'd give 'em a try. I ended up buying a #3 Sleepy Creek instead.

The coating is to protect the trap like guys use trap dye. No need to boil, just wax or use Full metal jacket. I didn't see the sleepy creek booth,I wanted to look at a 4 1/2.

You don't need to do anything to them. That's the point of the coating.Don't over think it.

The Sleepy Creek crew was in kind of a bad spot. They were a tailgater that was set up behind the skinning demo area. I only found them because I asked the guy from Mississippi if he sold Sleepy Creek, and he referred me to the Sleepy Creek crew.

There was soooo much to see this weekend smile

They sell that coating in a spray can. I thought that was interesting. Gives trappers another option versus dipping I guess.

Do not boil those traps!!! hahahaha. Get them in the dirt and let them work, and that they certainly will do. I have a dozen extremes that I've had for several years now with out retreating, coating, or dipping. Might have to do a few of them this year. Also have a half dozen of the jrs, and can understand waxing them to get the pan tension down if you are targeting fox. Both are great traps that function very well.

Wow. I guess until this weekend I didn't realize the KO's come pre-cleaned, and treated. Like I said, this is the 1st 1 I've ever bought.
