Some of you box trap guys, I recently purchased one of these traps and the pan does not come up when i set the trap. The trap is set with door open, but the pan is still laying on the ground. i was looking and it seems it should be easy to fix but i cannot figure it out. It is almost like the rod that connects the door and the pan is too long. I tried to install a picture but if that does not work the link is below. Any help would be appreciated.

Start bending on the trigger rod. One of the many, many reasons to not use a box store trap.

when you say trigger rod, do you mean the small piece that holds up the door or the larger rod that runs down the side?

i seldom use box traps and thought this would be sufficient, unfortunatley it doesn't work at all...haha. - Thanks

Return it pronto. It will be a headache ongoing if you don't. The Rod was never attached properly, probably never even trimmed to fit in the first place.

Best advice so far!

AND, I'd ask to test the new one before leaving the store to make sure it wasn't built as DEFECTIVE as the last 1.

If they give you a hard time, GENTLY remind them, you have now, WASTED a trip to their store, and that your time and gas has value.

Come to the NTA convention in the UP. You will find several different kinds of ones that will work. But the good ones are not cheap.

I use Koonce cages for baited traps. Advanced and Comstock for walk through (positive sets) situations.

Your Walmart link made me think you bought it there........I see auction purchase.

Lesson 1....always test something buying used.

Anyway, if it super cheap, it has a hole drilled in the treadle and the long rod attaches there....that loop into the treadle can be bent to take up slack.

I'd probably try and work/bend the trigger wires that engage by the door itself, they can often tune a trap to make it more or less sensitive....treadle travel wise.

hope this helps

Duke Heavy Duty, Safeguard, Tomahawk are decent values for the money....Google them for vendors.

Advanced and Comstock are awesome, durable, reliable.....but you will pay for them....and they ARE worth it IME.

Find out what vendors will be at your state convention and work out a deal, and pick up there and save a ton of shipping.

SURELY, you belong the the Ohio Trappers Assn so you are in their loop of meets and conventions and trappers ed classes, aren't you?

Does the trap function as is? ie: When set, will it fire when you tap the treadle with something?

Make my own 12.5ga wire and hog rings coon-proof as can be! Can you move the rod around at the peddle end to a different location?

You can move those treadles backwards relative to the door, but it would require about 30 minutes of work or so to remove the treadle off and remove the rod from the trap and reinstall. And hope the rod is long enough to make the jump.
