I traded for some older model MB550's, at least I think they're the older model. They have a longer bent dog. Am I describing the right thing as far as the older model? They seem to set fine, pan level. I've been interested in the "older model 550" for a while, but these are the first I've come across that were different as far as I could see. Just curious if I've found the older model or someone's "fix" of some kind. Thanks!

Original. I got a few of those. I like the newer models a lot better.

the first ones out had an alloy rod dog, then the Caven crew switched to the SS rod dogs on them. Not sure what other changes were made if any. I think Rob still wants to hit me with a hammer for talking Tim into the SS rod dogs.

I have never bought any except with the stainless steel rod dog but I have three different jaw markings MB550 in letters that cover the whole jaw, 550 os in letters about half that size and 550os in the current model. The first two have the old style jaws and over the years I have had two of these jaws break after much use. Was this the reason for the jaw redesign.

Without talking to Tim or Rob I couldn't confirm that on the jaw design. Knowing them, if they saw a pattern to a problem , they will fix the problem.

Not complaining at all just curious the two that broke were heavily used traps and easily fixed.
