Anybody have a shanty boat? Been wanting to build a fishing raft of some sort to sit out on the lake back in a bay, to get away from the snags along the bank....yet be somewhat comfortable and have a little room to move around. Yes, pretty redneck. I'm thinking about 7' x 9'. I have Styrofoam blocks for flotation.
Thought of doing something like this, only with a smaller houseboat hull. Anchor or tie up I somewhere out on the Mississippi, Chippewa or even Lower Wisconsin Rivers, and "base camp" out of there. Muskrat and I have talked of this but have never gotten there
There is a interesting book written by Walter Chansler called The River Trapper. It is a pre-ww2 story about a trapper living on a boat. Trapping, wild crafting and bee hunting.
I have been thinking of getting a pontoon there seem to be a lot with bad floors that have decent pontoons yet , and building a small cabin maybe 8x10 on 20 foot pontoons, have a set of bunks and live on the river for a week or two at a time just go anchor in a backwater out of the way and fish

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
My neighbors were down in panama for 2 years , the locals sleep in hammocks all their construction is basically 8 foot between beams so they have the hammocks on beams 8 feet apart , they got used to sleeping in them , said it was very comfortable even brought one home to Wisconsin.
I was thinking a Hamock that could be clipped to corners of a shanty could be a great way to sleep and not take up space with a bed.
just un-clip one end and clip it to the other and it would just hang on one wall

Some Friends have something close to this , only half of it has an upper deck and no camper but they have it all outdoor carpeted and a swim ladder and pool slide , it has outdoor speakers under the upper deck and a stereo , he pushes it with a little 9.9 they take it out to the middle of the lake away from the weeds where it is deeper and use it as a swim platform.
he is using 55 gallon drums for flotation
basically a floating dock with a motor.
