I’m going to do it one way or another. Might buy gun paint from Brownells or might use standard spray paint of some variety. If you’ve done it what did you use and how has it held up? I want to do both the synthetic stock and the barrel.

I did it to my old 870 special purpose 12 gauge years ago. I thought it was necessary to ever kill a turkey and the gun and I have probably killed 30 gobblers and at the same time improved the looks of the gun. I used rattle cans and plastic foliage from the decorating department at the local Ace Hardware Store. I love the look of a good walnut stock on a firearm and could never bring myself to Paint one, If ya already have a synthetic stock you have nothing to loose. My 870 looks like most of the paint has worked its way from the stock into the right side of my face but other than that has held up well.

Agree with ya, spur of the moment post which is why it's gone.

Duracoat or Cerakote. Both work very well and are durable as hec. If you don't prep the weapon correctly don't expect any of them to hold the type of paint you plan on using.

I painted a Remington 870 with synthetic stock with camo rustoleum flat paint. Broke the gun down and taped everything important. Cut a pattern of a stick in of a piece of cardboard and used that to make my pattern. Turned out ok, by no means a professional job, but for a turkey and predator gun, it works for me. I’ll post a pic or two when I can get on my laptop. It held up good so far this year.

I had an old beat up 12 gauge Pump gun I bought from Western Auto. In 1985 I put the rattle cans to it. Laid down a base coat of gray, and then held ferns and leaves in different spots and used some camo green and dark yellow.

Liked it so much, I did my old .243 in a black/gray combo. Loved that gun, until someone loved it more, and I decided I liked his cash more.

We used to do our bows too. But now everything comes already done, so haven't done one in awhile.

Yeah painted several like the camo flat rustoleum stuff I won't paint good wood but synthetic or cheap maple I've never hurt the looks with it!

I used a can of "bow flauge" once on a gun. Whole thing a goofy flat green. Then a few years later spent a lot of time with WD40 removing it and got it back to like new finish.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

They make a self etching primer in spray can(krylon, I believe). Its green...that's the base coat I have always used for rattlecan long guns. Never had any issues with paint coming off.

Had a tc hakens muzzelloader I used spray primer on. I taped off the scope glass and shot everything. Was not purty but it took the high gloss and shiny brass look away. It was my dear gun and I had been caught in The stand too many times from the sun shining off the gun. It worked great. I did not buy the gun to look petty I bought it to kill deer and after the paint job it did a lot better.

I used Brownells Baking Lacquer on a Pistol and spray paint on a couple of Rifles. I like the look of the Lacquer better, the spray paint works fine.

I did it to my bow, rattle cans in a woodland camo pattern, then took all shine off with auto rubbing compound.
