I'm in the UP on vacation for a few days, my second home, hope someday I'll be here full time. Anyways today my wife and I are going for a drive just to see some of the communities in the area... Came across a small town and decided to drive around a bit, I happen to notice a set of old vintage snowshoes on a gable of a garage, I said to my wife now that's a nice set of shoes, after driving by several times I decided to go and ask the owners if they would consider selling them(something I never do is go up to a residents and ask), his wife said I'll get my husband, after talking with him I found out he was a trapper, and a humble trapper at that...What a great guy, after chatting with him and his wife for a bit we left(no shoes which was understandable they had history and memories he could not part with)... After getting back to our cabin we rented, my wife found an old publication of the Porcupine Press, she ask me if I'd like to read it, sure I love this stuff, as I'm paging through the press I notice something, hey, they have an article on the trapper we just spoke with, And low and behold a picture of the snowshoes on his gable the ones I was trying to buy... Now what's the chances of meeting this gentleman out of all the places here in the UP, plus finding an old article about him in our cabin after I met him...weird... I'd like to say he was the most humble trapper and gentlemen I've ever met...I love the UP!!!!!!!! Here is the article, and you can see the snowshoes in a pic that he has on the gable....
Thought I was a good trapper until I started trapping coyotes...... Thought I was a good bowhunter until I targeted mature bucks....

The Buckhorn is a great place. I spend a lot of time in those areas every winter snowmobiling. Mostly Melstrand and up H58 towards Grand Marais. Couple of the guys I ride with are good friends with the owners of the Buckhorn. Been in the store in Melstrand lately?Wow!What a change.

Don’t usually stop there unless we were desperate for gas. Lol. We stay in Whetmore, then trailer out to Kingston Plains. Take gas with us. All off trail riding. Stop @ The Bear Trap on the way out for burgers and beer.
