Ignore some of the advice given here. See a local attorney.
There's a good chance that a call or letter from your attorney would make them up their offer. If so, attorney's fees should be insignificant to what you recover.

I HATE to agree with James.
But...I agree with James (on THIS one).
it's amazing to me, how penny-wise and dollar foolish people can be.
and maybe because Trappers are an independent sort, but they seem to think they are more qualified for EVERY task than the professionals in a given field.
(no, you SHOULDN'T try to remove your own spleen, just because you can gut a deer).

Lawyers are expensive. Probably wont pencil. They have on staff people who take others property as a career choice.
Get out your guns and there will be a military styled assault team made up of law enforcement who will have no remorse if they kill you. They will tell themselves the government sanctioned it so killing you was the right thing to do.
You don't own property in the U.S. anymore. You just buy the privilege of limited use. If you think otherwise quit paying rent to the state and build something without permission. + rent to the county!

Easements make private land become public land.

Easements make private land become public land. Not true, very far from the truth.

Easements make private land become public land. Not true, very far from the truth. Your opinion might be true where you live not true at all where I live. My saying that is having signing easement on my property and what I have experienced and witnessed. I value your experience but my experience is completely different. People use the roads and easements all the time and have no legal right to do so. So private land becomes public land in my area. From pouching, fishing, hunting and just using the easement and most are up to no good. Thanks for your opinion not trying to change your experience with easement just giving my experience with them.

I am a retired attorney and this was one area that I worked with regularly. Ignore most of the advice given here. Hire an excellent experienced attorney to take care of this for you. Don’t think you can do this yourself, don’t listen to crackpot ideas, and don’t turn this into an armed standoff. This may greatly benefit you. Opportunity is knocking on your door.
Best wishes.

An easement is a very specific legal agreement. It only conveys the rights spelled out in the agreement.
If you choose to allow folks who have no rights per the easement to use/abuse the property, that is on you!
