Here's one for all of us trapperman psychiatrist's. Yesterday I went to sleep early (6 pm est) so I could get up in the middle of the night and drive so my wife/co-driver could get a full nights sleep before we got home & hit the honey do list. At 9 pm I came out of the sleeper madder than heck, hit the passenger seat & lite a cigarette. Susan - "What's wrong babe?" "Bad dream, weirder than (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman)". "You want to tell me?" Long pause. "I walked into the shop where evidently I'd taken the truck for service & I saw Steve's Dodge Ram had been backed into the side of the bed of our truck, then our truck was on a lift and the guy , you know the guy that killed John Wayne in the Cowboy's movie? That (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) lowlife?" "Ya, babe". "He had a 6 foot ram going to knock out the dent in the bed, I went ballistic. What in the 3456 vey $;()6 are you doing? He replied " If you don't let me fix it, if you call the law" and he ran over to a big old Cadillac on a lift and dropped it, it bounced 3 feet in the air several times "That'll happen to your truck" . He ran to another lift and dropped a pickup, it bounced 3 feet up and down " You see? I'll do this to your truck " and he ran over to the lever to drop my truck. "What are you going to do" he screamed at me. I pulled my 38 I've carried for decades and told him I'd shoot him if he dropped my truck, he backed away from the lever and took on that same slimy smile he had in the movie. Susan - "Did you shoot him?" "Ya" "Cause he wrecked your truck & killed John Wayne?" "Ya" "Your really messed up babe, glad you love me" "Ya, that's what worries me, I'm going back to bed" . " "That you love me or that you killed for your truck & John Wayne?" A single finger wave and I went back to bed.
Not as bad as I could be, not as good as I should be.

I think the actor who killed John Wayne in "The Cowboys" was Bruce Dern.

Bruce Dern He also played Asa Watts, a serial killer of Wil Andersen in The Cowboys (1972). John Wayne warned Dern, "America will hate you for this." and Dern replied, "Yeah, but they'll love me in Berkeley".

Who was the better actor? Bruce Dern or John Wayne. Acting at this level as does writing a novel(think Steven King, John Sanford here) just amazes me.
Not as bad as I could be, not as good as I should be.

Bruce Dern.
Call me un-American but I never cared much John Wayne's characters. He always acts so cocky and egotistical. He's overconfident and smart-mouthed. He acts like a big shot tough guy - but in reality he's just an actor. Who's really tougher, the guys on the wrestling or football team or the guy in the drama club? I hear John Wayne truly was a great horseman, though.

Yea, lets just get acting mixed up with real life LOL, me thinks if you lived back when his characters in the westerns lived, you would be just how they are to survive, confident, egotistical, and aggressive when needed.
However most of us now won't know cause we got no time machine to jump into to find out.
Acting is just that, real life is much different, you can't compare the two !
Sorry if my opinions or replies offend you, they are not meant to !

John Wayne was on a football team, and yeah it's called acting, id say he could hold his own men back in his time were taught to be men no matter there profession. weman in his time was more men than a lot are know! And I also read somewhere that John Wayne was tutored on cowboy acting buy Wyatt Errp so if say he had it pretty close to wright. Colt

Was never very fond of Dern's whiney voice.

He did good. The egotistical part was just movie stuff, check out his real life self, we all could drink beer together. I did that one time with Clint Eastwood when he was the mayor of (I believe) Carmel, Ca. I was stuck there for the weekend and a driver that was there all the time took me to a open air bar Saturday night and Clint Eastwood showed up, they said he did every weekend night. He sat at a table next to us and the other driver says 'hey Clint, how was your week?' He looked over and said 'Sucked Brad, want to switch jobs?' It impressed me he remembered that guy's name seeing him a couple times a month and was mayor of 80, 100 or 200 thousand folks? 'Who's that with you?' Introduced me and we said hello to each other and pleased to meet ya and Brad asked me did I know 'who this is'?. 'Ya, you do good work, what's worse, acting or babysitting a whole city?' 'You know about acting?' 'Ya, I act like a truck driver everyday , you acting like an actor or a mayor?' That boy could drink beer. Put me under the table and that ain't easy.
Not as bad as I could be, not as good as I should be.
