Excellent choice, you can kill almost anything with a cup and core bullet but why take a chance on the bullet blowing up and jacket separation before deep enough penetration.

Also, copper doesn't weigh as much as lead so your 130 gr bullet will be closer to the size of a 140 gr.

Barnes bullets normally do better from 30 to 50 thousandths off your lands and like to go fast. Good luck

Does anyone have experience with the 150 gr Barnes TSX (all copper) bullets in a .270?

I used 150 grain Barnes TSX in my 30-06 for elk. I have killed a number of elk with that bullet.

Yep, so I've used Sierra Pro Hunter or Game Kings (whatever's on sale) for decades and never lost a critter. I did step up to 150 gr for elk and bear though.

Its MORE about where you put the bullet. If you'll try and deflate both lungs, they never go far. Avoid heavy shoulder bones. If I couldn't see the ribs, it went in the neck.......and PLOP!

I used the 130 rem.corlok for years. the always ran with lung shot. switched to the barnes TSX 130 shoot good and they either dont run or very little. Deer or black bear. love them. Eat right up to the bullet hole.

yep, very unpredictable/unreliable performance for decades.....some folks like them though. My friends that still like them are neck shooters.

Neck shots are very unpredictable. Not here to start a debate on neck shooting but there are no vital organs in the neck. The spine, yes which is part of the cns, (central nervous system) does work but you better be either lucky or darn good at anatomy.

Let me ask the neck shooters this, if you are land trapping and have a critter you would like to take home do you shoot it in the neck???

I rest my case, carry on.

rp a neck shot should be called a throat shot. when the animal is looking at you a shot in the center of the throat will hit the spine and drop it in its tracks. when shooting the neck from the side its difficult to know exactly where to put the bullet and is not a good choice IMO. lots easier to put the bullet in the animals heart.

tried a texas heart shot on a big muley one time. (shot in the anus when facing away) I missed by about 1 1/2 inches to the right side. ruined most of one ham. deer dropped and thrashed around some but didn't get up. wont do that again.

Ban private vehicles now. They are killing too much wildlife and too many children.

If the animal is looking at you, you should be aiming for the soft spot in the low neck just above the front rib cage. That way you take out the top of heart and lungs. With this shot, even if your off a bit a good bullet will still bust bone and make it to the vitals.

Archers do not take neck shots, there is a reason for that. If they do they are slobs.
