My Rem 700 shoots wonderful groups with 130gr Sierra Gameking Bullets and I have no hesitation using it for deer or antelope at any distance that the retained energy is sufficient for a clean kill. For larger game like black bear or elk I am thinking a more robust bullet would be better. I have tried the Nosler 150 gr Partitions but found the accuracy to be less than satisfactory. Does anyone have experience with the 150 gr Barnes TSX (all copper) bullets in a .270?

140 partitions is what mine likes. And I like the performance.
But like yours, the game kings shoot paper best.

The Sierra 130gr GK will work just fine. Bullet placement is key. If your rifle likes it, then I would stick with it. If in doubt, contact sierra, talk with one of their bullet techs. Sarge

Always a good idea to use a tough bullet on bears or elk. Partitions would be good if you can get them to shoot and you just canít go wrong with a Barnes. Bears have crazy heavy bones. My 338 win mag shooting 225 ttsx penetrated about 18Ē on my bear this spring and the shot was only 30 yards. Between breaking the neck and hitting the shoulder joint dead centre that really slowed it down. He was a pretty big bear probably close to 400 pounds

My vote is for barnes. Elk and bear are tough critters. Pay the money for high quality ammo/bullets, you owe it to the animal as in a quick and clean kill. Whatever you choose remember 2 things, deep penetration and slow expansion.

Nosler Accubonds , Sierra Gamekings or Even Hornady SST. All three from MY hunting experience have been great bullets. If It was Larger Game I would probably roll with the Accubonds.

In my opinion the new all copper bullets are great, my wife shot a black bear head on with a slight angle with her 7mm-08 and it traveled some 40 inches and lodged under the skin on the off side. That said the old Remington core locks, are still the deadliest mushroom in the woods. lol

Sierra makes a 140 grain in .277. I think it is a boattail. Shoots great in my 700.

I was shooting a few white tails with a sierra 130 grain hand load but it was traveling a little too fast for close range.
They would run 20-30 yards on average. They worked great out at 150 - 200 yards. Iv'e always been a fan of mushrooms and they have served me well in a .243 so I switch to the Remington core-loc 150 grain round nose for those chip shots under 40 yards in these thick woods. Let me tell you it really anchors them. Try different bullets to see what your gun shoots best, but also consider a couple for different ranges or game animals, ie bear, elk, antelope, or deer, moose, etc. Take the time to research and get the best you can for that out of state special hunt or if big bear moose or elk is your quarry, but for the whitetails on the back 40 any of them will do the job if your gun's sighted in and you pick your shot.

Scuba1, the 130gr Barnes TTSX is what I am going to try after reading that the Rem 700 rate of twist won't stabilize the 150 gr copper bullets (lead core in 150 gr is fine). 140s are supposed to be OK but I decided to try the 130s since my rifle shoots the 130 GK so well.

You put a 130 game king into an elks heart, bottom of his lungs or his spine you wont have to look for it

I've killed 13 Elk including a 300 class Bull with the 130 Game Kings. I'm not too proud to say that all my shots weren't perfect, but I was always able to retrieve the animal. Range ran from 175 to 400, at 400 in my experience the bullet goes clean through most of the animal and stops in the hide on the other side.

To clear up, by not perfect I mean that it wasn't a one shot through the pump house. I had some liver shots and spine shots...fyi and elk can go along way on one lung or a liver shot.

Good luck getting a 700 to shoot the corelock !!! I have 2 a 700 bdl and a a 700 adl. Core locks will have a flyer every time in a 3 shot group. I DON"T MEAN 1/4 inch off ,I"M TALKING 3-4 inches off at 100 yrds. 130 or 150 gr both suck out of my 700. The savage 270 I got will put all three in same hole at that distance. I use federal premium 130 grain in the 700's.
PLUS 130 grains is plenty of bullet for elk. Unless you shoot him between the eyes 9 times out of 10 he won't even act like you shot him the first round regardless of what you put thru him. As for bear never killed one , but hear about a lot of black bears falling to a 30-30. I know if a 30-30 will kill one then a 130 gr 270 would put a hurtin on one.....

One more point to be made in favor of the .270. In Wyoming its legal to take down buffalo with a .270 as long as its loaded with at least a 150 gr bullet. My brother killed a beast of a bull Buffalo with his .270, he hammered it twice with the 150's. I'm pretty sure the first shot killed it as I think that was the heart shot but he shot again just to be sure. That huge animal only made it about 30yds before going down, it was 150yd shot. I know its not a 130 gr, but it thought the story really showcased the toughness of the cartridge on "Big" game.

I also like Remington CoreLokt bullets, but I only hunt whitetails. Those bullets are hard to beat at any price. I reload mostly cup and core, non premium bullets. Dont like Ballistic Tips and copper bullets. If meat hunting for doe deer, and I am hopping to take two with one shot, the copper works best on the second deer.

Core lokt is what I use. They shoot well out of both the 700 bdl and sps.
