I am currently running 15 inch Berkshire heavy duty anchors on my MB 550's for coyotes, depredation control for my fawns. However, in my part of SC I have to deal with really hard clay soil once you get a few inches down.

If I can get them all the way down they work. They worked really well on a black yote that I caught July 5 but my issue is getting them down without bending. It's too much work to get a trap bed ready to only bend the anchor and have to start over in a different spot.

Seeing that I am relatively new at this I need to know what would be a better anchor. Rebar is out. I need to know if the Duckbills would be a better choice, or maybe Wolf Fangs.

Also, with this clay soil would a 12 inch long cable be a better choice rather than a 15 inch cable that I currently use?

I just leave mine in, use them for about 3 years. But I trap same ground year after year. Just put a loop of wire in them and a rock over them. To help find them.

Drill a pilot hole. And yes the duck bill type will take more abusive pounding without bending. Also might try chain instead of cable then if you get twelve inches down you don't have three inches sticking out of the bed.
Just some ideas

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

I'm trapping same land as well but my issue is with the hard ground, not leaving them in the ground to find them later.

I'm bending too many Berkshire anchors due to the high content of clay soil and need a better anchor due to the clay.

I can't help with your question, but I use a brace style wood bit. I cut the top off the bit off where it attaches to the brace (hand drill)and just below that is a Hex head. I put the bit in a cordless drill and pre drill my holes for the lighter duty Berkshire anchors. Maybe you could try that,it makes it alot easier and faster to set anchors in. My top is like this (the part I cut off). Just below is the Hex head I put in drill.

First, get rid of the Berkshires. If you build them with 12" of cable and 6" of chain, you have the versatility to drive them from 12"-18" with no cable sticking up.

Because I have no motorized vehicle access to this land and my trap bag is heavy enough.

May not work for ya, and then again it might.
I run my driver down first to make a pilot hole, then Berks go in easier. I had trouble bending them until i started doing this.

I've got a few Berks left and may give this a try before I go a different route.

If the soil is real hard you could shorten then to 10-12", pipe anchors hold up the best I found

I too pack my gear in on parts of my line. When the ground is to hard or too rocky I use extension cables and tie off to a tree shrub etc... I use 3/16" quick links tightened with pliers. Is that a possibility for you to do in your terrain?

Listen to Taximan. Make up some of his style anchors.

Pre-drill the holes.

I bought Berkshire’s heaviest grade one time. Too soft in hard or rocky or frozen soil. Too soft to survive extraction with a strong puller. I won’t buy anymore. Get better anchors. Use 1/8” cable.

Oh sure I use drill steel, and pound a pilot hole. Sucker rod works good too.
