Was able to film one dusting late this afternoon. The last time I was able to catch the action on video was 27 June 2016.

To an Alabama native our state bird the Yellowhammer will never have northern in its name.

Always found them to be a handsome bird. Love their calls.
Thanks for sharing!

Have spent many hours out back in a chair watching them peck out a nest hole.

They are interesting, and two biologist friends call them crazy, sometimes grin

Every spring one likes to hammer on the end peak of my cabin's metal roof. He sure knows the loudest place to announce himself !

I call him Uzi.

He knows he needs to stop and take off if he wakes me at the crack of dawn grin

Nice captures , Jonathan, as usual .

That's called "Drumming", it's how they mark their territory and warn off others. There's a Sycamore up the street that has a branch that really makes a racket, and I've had them drum on my chimney cap. That'll really make you jump! LOL

Nice pics as always Jonathan!
I wonder why they are now called northern flicker, I always get corrected when I call them yellow shafted flickers.

Tell me and I'll forget. Show me, and I may not remember. Involve me, and I'll understand.

Oh my that's early!
I thought it was bad having guy across the street with a loud motorcycle, goes to work at 5:15, and doesn't care how loud it is
