Do you think a large colony muskrat trap would work for skunks? If you propped the door open with something the skunk would easily knock down and using a trail a cat food for bait? I want to know your suggestions before I buy one! LOL! crazy

Check your regulations - it wouldn't be legal in WI. It would probably work but there are a lot of other options.

I use colony traps regularly for nuisance skunks. No need to to prop the door, they'll push their way in like the rats do.

If the colony trap is not in the water, what is the difference between that and a cage trap?

A colony trap is designed for multi catch, where a cage trap is designed for a single catch.
Some states prohibit traps capable of catching more than one animal at a time.

If you use the colony trap, stake it so they don't roll it over.

I'd prefer a 155 or 160 body gripper,myself.

If you catch a skunk in a colony trap, and he cannot raise his tail, can he still spray?

With some rabbit clips stiff wire ( like a good clothhanger) and so springs you can make colony traps I to some what wire triggered double doors pretty easy

It has been my experience that a tail does not need to be raised to spray. And they can twist around and look at you while spraying. You are dealing with a loaded gun

Just to show what I was talking about. Here's some stuff from my sketch book about how you can turn colony traps into powered trigger traps. Got the idea from the WA STYLE cage traps.
