Have no experience with or knowledge of Tristar shotguns. So any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks

My son won a youth model 20 ga. Semi auto. Good little gun. My Benelli chokes worked in it as well. Thanks for the info. This one was a 20 gauge with a compact butt stock and they said it also came with a full size butt stock. Looking for a gun for my 12 year old son and was set on getting him a pump. But all anybody likes to stock is mossberg 500 and 870s and one place had a Franchi.

I just bought one. It’s an o/u hunter mag in mossyoak. No more than I have shot it, seems to do well. I need to get a couple turkey chokes for it and give a good workout. But so far pleased with it. Shoots where you aim and goes bang, bang when you pull the trigger. So time will tell on it.

I have one in a 28ga .I bought it to give my old Remington 28ga a rest. Its been a really good gun. I shoot sporting Clay's and dove hunt with. This year I'm going to duck hunt with it some. The gun is real simple to break down and clean, so far no problems with it and it's probably got 5000 rounds through it.

Thanks guys, this all helps a lot. My other worry is longevity. I still use my first shotgun, a winchester 1300, as my main gun 25 years later.

My son has a 20 ga automatic shoots a lot of trap with it. Only problem he has had is shooting his reloads but I am sure that's not the guns fault. Seems to work flawlessly with factory ammunition. Thanks for responding. Auto loaders can be picky about the shells they will and wont function with. I have some factory ammunition that turned an Remington 1100 into a single shot on a dove hunt last year. The shells flared out at the top near the crimp. They would fail to feed every time. Took my pump gun the next day and had 0 feeding issues.

Tri-star shotguns are a very good bargain, don't know if they are hand me down quality, time will tell, but for the money, a bargain. The hand me down part seems to be my biggest hang up right now. I would really like him to be able to pull out his first gun 25 years dowm the road and it still be in good shape and functioning. My winchester 1300 was only $250 in 1993 and other than keeping the exterior and the inside of the barrel clean I havent had to do anything else. Well last year the action was getting gummy and required more effort to pump. A couple shots of rem oil on the slide and a few pumps and its good to go again. Also the full synthetic is not my favorite style of gun. Call me old school but a long gun should be wood stock and blued metal.

Our Tristar has good wood and very nice blueing, it maybe ceracate, G2 I think. Thanks, will try to look at that one too. Although I have an extremely excited 12 year old who has taken an extreme liking to the synthetic one.

I say have the gun complete clean ,if not yourself if it is use by a gunsmith and make sure it is lube right and take care of also the right way. I have my dad's 12ga ithaca mod. 37 he got way before I was think of and it still works ,had to have it repair once for a bent spring and also change the stock because of it split to no repair. I found out a few years ago they are know for that. But other wise it was my main go to gun. My dad told me years ago he had blown the end of the barrel off and had his brother in law turn it down for him and then a few years ago I had a gunsmith I know put some chokes on it to be able to use the way I want now.
