Deer River area, Moose Lake Resort we've had a couple decent stays there. It's no-frills but the cabins are neat and they are able to provide basic needs if you forget something. Here's information on Moose Lake from the DNR.

Leech lake area would be a good choice. Edited too add: should be a panty wearing looser from MT chiming in soon

If it's tough finding room that weekend look a bit north of there at Cass, Big, Winnibigoshish, and some of the other lakes towards Bemidji. Some very good lakes just west of the Leach area as well. If you like catching a good number of walleye lake of the woods can't be beat, but leech lake, lake vermillion, and lake kabetogoma give up their fair share of fish.

Keep in mind, some of lakes mentioned are fairly big waters. You don't want to be out there with a 14' boat! Areas mentioned are all great areas. If big waters are too rough, there will be a smaller fishable lake VERY close

There is always LOW, if you can stand the monotony of catching fish, and want to be in the actual north.

If I had a dollar for every walleye we caught while smallmouth fishing for a week on Mille Lacs I could have paid for gas back to NC lol. I know they're regulated in there though somehow. I fished the Bassmaster College Series National Championship on the Bemidji lakes and we caught a few walleye drop shotting for smallmouth, they're fairly easy to find and catch there. Like bucksnbears said if you're not catching them just drive 5 minutes and try another lake
Gotta live up to the nickname...

The great thing about bass is you don't have to eat one.

And if ya don't have to eat one, ya don't have to clean one! That's what all of us who can't catch walleyes say anyway The woman chain of lakes is a fun chain too. Just east of leech.

If big waters are too rough, there will be a smaller fishable lake VERY close Very good point. If you search on google maps it has the name of lodges on about any lake in MN. Search that next to the MN DNR Lakefinder info for netting results on that lake. Lots of smaller/more secluded lakes that half the United States doesn't show up to on a holiday. The big lakes....I'm out. Not a fan of going on vacation next to a bazillion people.
