Back to the ? on coon prices. Hmmmm. Depends on where you catch them, size, primeness, the usual. My prediction, for what it’s worth:
Local buyers for first 2 weeks of November. Scraped and dried, 4X and bigger: $8 average
Local buyer for Nov 15 to Dec 30. Scraped and dried, 4X and bigger: $11 average

NAFA and other international auctions. Early coon $6 average. Mid November to end of December 4X and larger top of $22. Bottom $6
Average $12 —-IF you are lucky enough to get them sold.

We sent 20 coon to NAFA in January 2018. All the early, 3,4, 5 color, 4X coon sold for a $11 average. The half dozen 3X select types with absolutely primo color are still sitting there. The international auctions still want square inches and buyers aren’t afraid to dye to get the colors buyers want.

Never too old to learn

Welcome back Brian, I think the coon question was
rhetorical Teach, those goats would make better
leather than furs I would think.

The only reason I quite subscribing to FFG was their fur market reports. Always WAY overly optimistic...to the point of flat out lying about it.

Seems this time of year GFW always sends out some big uptick in some market (last year it was beaver) only to pull back as soon as people start to sell. Hmmmmm

I sold a few dozen coon last year for just under a $12 ave. I'm OK with that...but they definitely were not opening week coon, either.

If this crappy coon market does anything it forces guys to trap them later when they are, at least, saleable I think.

Near where I live, there is a goat farm. They sell remedies, creams for all sorts of ailments, milk, etc. Make it sound like goat products are a cure-all or preventative for just about everything.

I quit FFG for that reason and thought the magazine got boring with some of the articles.

I would be happy with a 10-12 dollar average they just pay the gas is all not worth picking up for 3-4 dollars and the little ones being useless, there is always the freezer!

Kids are more interested in goats and ducks. We have 8 goat, 30 chickens mixed variety, royal palm turkeys, and about 60 ducks now.

So we have stopped breeding dogs

In My Neighborhood, there are three or four GOAT-TICERIES that raise their goats specifically for the Muslim Immigrants who Prize

Organic, Free Range Goats for religious holiday meals, etc.

These Muslims insist on slaughtering their own goats so they are sold live on the hoof usually in December.

They must be doing a good business because their goat herds get bigger every year.

Dunno about all that.

But they do keep two acres pretty well manicured.
