We checked out quite a few, and neither of us liked Explorers or Cherokees. Her last car was a Mazda CX-9 and we liked it but it got totaled. Our unanimous first choice would be a Toyota 4-Runner or preferrably Sequoia, but didn’t find any that fit the bill in price range (paying cash with insurance money). We ended up with a Nissan Pathfinder under 100k, WITH a new transmission, since that was a chronic issue with them. The Pathfinder sits up like a truck more than most SUVs today, which keep getting lower and more car-like. Tow package, good tow and load ratings, and uses the same 16” tires as my Chevy, so tires are now family-universal . I like it. I know some guys are still trying to buy “American” cars, but I gave up on that when I realized how much of my Chevy is made overseas anyway.
