Thermacell. It works better than anything else I have found.

One thing a lot of people don't realize is shirt color has a lot to do with any biting bug. Any dark colored shirt/clothing attracts bugs. They bother a yellow or white shirt a lot less than a dark one. Lighter colors will keep you cooler too. More heat in the dark colors and more bug lure emits for them.
Wont be a cure all for the amount of bugs this year but color sure does help. I've found yellow or light tan to be the best.

it is so dry here,Hutchy there are hardly no blackflies or mosquitos compared to normal.Lots of forest fires. The horseflys, however are out in full force. When I fish from shore I make a smudge-the best remedy to keep biting bugs away.Loose fitting long clothes with cuffs help a lot if you cant light a smudge.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Boco, the skitters here can't handle the heat of the day, and even in the past week there are fewer at night. So dry. The deerflies here are having a great time. Lots of them. Can smell the fire at the French river today. All of the French river, key river and henvy inlet fn is evacuated. 5000 acre fire. Need rain. I'll take some more bugs over the fire risk. Haven't seen a blackfly in literally six weeks or more

Check into eating garlic! I've heard that it repels insects. Local ranchers are feeding their cattle garlic and swear it helps keeps flies off the cows!!! Maybe even rubbing garlic water on your skin..
