Chicken. I tried some last year and can't say I'm a huge fan. Not terrible, but not great either.

Chicken of the woods. Looks like it’s a little moldy. They are best when fresh. I would leave it and let it grow again next year. I like to trim the thin ends off and fry them up. They are the best part. The rest can be made into a soup. My kids and I don’t care much for the thicker parts but those thin ends sliced up and fried in some olive oil are delicious.

Yup. That is a chicken of the wood, best eating musroom out there imo. Shame you was a little too late, but it will grow back, check after a good rain.

i like chickens. when theyre about the size of your palm and smaller is best imo.

Thank you for the info. I thought this may be a chicken. Should I just leave it grow this year then and wait and pick them much earlier next year then?
